Hi, I’m Sarah.
I’m a freelance acting teacher and director who helps drama schools and industry professionals develop actors to become present, instinctive, confident, and fully engaged in their work.
This is my story.
Born in London
to a father who worked for the UN, I was raised across multiple countries including Uganda, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Cyprus.
My mother’s love of film meant storytelling was part of my life from an early age, while my sister and I were constantly creating and performing our own shows at home.
An American high school exchange programme ultimately shaped my path, leading me to stay and earn a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts - Acting & Directing in California.
It was there I discovered that real growth happens in the rehearsal room; through experimentation, risk-taking, failure, and those breakthrough moments where everything finally clicks.
Inspired by the belief and enthusiasm of my own teachers, I learned that great teaching doesn’t impose. It empowers.
That philosophy continues to shape every room I walk into today.
With over 15 years of teaching experience
and a professional acting career spanning more than three decades, I’ve worked with thousands of students across drama schools, youth programmes, and professional training environments throughout the UK.
From the Shakespeare Schools Festival to long-term teaching at PPA (Performance Preparation Academy), I’ve supported actors at every stage of their development.
My experience also extends beyond drama schools
into large-scale facilitation and behavioural training, including work with Transport for London, through Steps Drama, where I helped train 25,000 bus drivers from diverse cultural backgrounds using applied performance and communication techniques.
This strengthened my ability to read a room, adapt quickly, and connect with a wide range of personalities — skills that directly inform my teaching approach today.
In drama school settings,
I teach and facilitate across a broad range of disciplines, including:
Acting Techniques — Hagen, Stanislavski, Shakespeare, Grotowski, Viewpoints, Improvisation, Boal, Meisner
Voice Production & Vocal Care
Speech & Accent Work — RP and Neutral Standard English
Text Analysis & Script Development
Project Preparation — American Realism, European Naturalism, British Theatre
Contextual Studies — Theatre for Social Change & British Theatre Ecology
Directing & Devising Projects
Audition Preparation & Self-Tape Guidance
Bespoke Workshops & Ensemble Development
MY CREATIVE PROCESS
A supportive and structured approach designed to help actors build confidence, take creative risks, and fully engage in the work.
CONNECTION
Every rehearsal room, studio, or classroom I walk into becomes a space for curiosity, collaboration, and creative risk-taking.
My role is to create an environment where actors feel focused, supported, and confident enough to fully commit to the work.
COMMITMENT
My teaching style combines enthusiasm, structure, humour, and discipline.
I encourage actors to experiment, trust their instincts, and engage fully in the process while developing the professionalism and focus needed for the industry.
As I often say, “You get as much out of it as you put into it.”
GROWTH
What makes my approach different is my ability to balance encouragement with high standards.
I meet students where they are, challenge them to grow, and help them develop the confidence, resilience, and independence needed for professional performance.
I’m here to help actors, students, and training programmes create meaningful, supportive spaces where performers can grow in confidence, trust their instincts, and realise what they’re truly capable of.
I believe great training goes beyond technique.
It should develop presence, resilience, curiosity, and the ability to think independently. Both inside and outside the rehearsal room.
Let’s create meaningful work together.
